So the French said “NON” to the EU Constitution last Sunday. (yes, I mean NO)
I am usually quite fond of the French, they got a beautiful language, a mesmerizing country and lifestyle, and for what it’s worth, great food as well.
So I was very disappointed when the referendum ended up on a negative note, especially when most people that voted didn’t even care to know what the Constitution was all about, but instead decided to give a kick in the rear to their government. It’s also true that those who did know what was going on probably voted NON because this means this is no longer France’s EU .. new players have come in, others countries who once were weaker have risen and take charge (A good example being the Iberians) .. so, does this mean unless we sing the French tune, the French wont let us sing at all ?
I don’t think so .. it might take a while longer for them to accept it, but eventually the French will play ball with the rest of us. If these elections were held in the US or Australia (basically any other major country outside EU) the people going to vote still would not know a thing about what they were voting for, people tend to do what their so called “Leaders” tell them to do, and that’s the sum of it, if people stop trusting their leaders, they stop listening on what to do .!
Chirac pleaded for people not to take a backslash at the government by voting NON, I guess people just didn’t care much for Chirac either .. one good thing, Raffarin is finally out (Honestly, has he been out before this, we most likely would have see a OUI) .. and guess who is in .. De Villepin ![]()
Who doesn’t remember De Villepin marching against the “Coalition of the Willing” AKA “Bush’s Toy Soldiers” when the war in Iraq was brewing (the second time), I wonder who else will get sacked .. after 10 years .. perhaps is time for Chirac to say Adieu as well.
I can only see the halls of the political parties outside of the EU, laughing at those Europeans, “they can’t even agree on a Constitution” they might say … well, nothing comes easy, unfortunately there was never a Plan B .. but we have done fine until now without a Constitution, we will continue to do fine until all members can agree one one .. it might take a decade .. but good things come to those who wait.
I personally love the EU idea, I don’t perticuly subscribe to the continuous expansion, we might be taking on more than we can handle, and more than we need .. the whole constitution proposal might be flawed as well, after all, I too subscribe to the plan because the politicians that i support tell me to, but hey, I’m just a geek, what do i know ?

I decide to start posting every time I see a weird or odd Sign ..
Today while walking with my daughters to the park, I saw this one in a post, maybe it’s because I just moved from the US, were we don’t usually see the word “DEATH” on a sign .. either way, it would it was funny (the words below are the equivalent in Welsh)

Walk into the abyss, and you might die !!
It was there to scare off people from wandering into the small cliff off the road.

I was just reading that Mary Kay Letourneau, the teacher accuse of “raping” a 12 year old student 10 years ago just got married to that same student.
Now here is a case of an adult, who had sex with a kid, got sentenced to 7 years in jail, then got most of the sentence suspended, then got caught having sex with him again, and did not had new charges against her, just had to server the rest of the sentence.
This makes me sick … if this was a man, who was an adult having sex with a 12 year old girl, he would have first never had a 7 year sentence .. you can add another decade to it .. easily .. and if somehow he was caught doing it again .. he would have had the book thrown at him, and we would never seem him outside ever again.
Now, I am the father of 3 young girls, if a bastard ever did that to one of them, he would not need to worry about going to jail … unless they sentence corpses these days .. but thats not the point the point is because this was a woman .. all is forgiven.
I’m all about equal rights .. heck, anybody that says otherwise doesn’t think about it too hard .. equal right means equal benefits and equal chores .. it’s not about just making sure the woman of this planet get paid as much as the men .. they also need to be accountable the same as well.
As a man who defends woman as having the same equal rights as we do, I find it offensive that a woman can do whatever she wants, even rape, and be excuse of it all because of gender .. sorry .. but if thats what equality of rights mean, then we men are are all suckers .. (then again .. I already knew the answer to that)
Same thing happens in the Army .. woman bullied for so long to be able to belong, but they cant go into the front-line and fight .. yes, it’s a man made law, but were are the activists on that issue ?, hey, as I said .. equal right, equal chores ..

Found one of those sites that set out to define who you are in a few simpel to answer questions (suuuuure)
Seems I am a Existentialist .. no kidding

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

Today I finally picked up my new car .. a Fiat Multipla JTD ELX (2001 / 38K Miles).
Before driving off the lot, I double check everything,, made sure the service had been done, the car was properly clean .. everything checked fine.
As I am driving on the Motor-way, 3 miles from the dealer,, the car .. DIES.
It simply turned off, and it would not go back on, after waiting for 10 minutes and calling the dealership bitching, it finally turn ON again, so I try too drive it back to the garage .. but as luck would have it,, a few miles down the road, it dies again.
So I called the dealership again, and they sent a crew out to get me and the car .. by then I am quite worried.
We took the car back too the garage, and after close inspection the mechanic found the RPM sensor (which had been replaced) was not properly setup in place, and since it was a bit dislodged,, it would overheat and make the car stall.
They plugged it in properly and took it for a long drive .. man,, what a difference the car was driving smooth as silk.
So in the end it was all OK .. just a minor nuisance .. and it’s now proudly parked on my driveway

What a nice day today, the sun is just radiant, and the temperature is very mild .. perfect for a day out.
Unfortunately I am stuck working, but at least I got this wonderful view from my home office:
On another bright note, the Fiat dealership called today, I can go pick up my Multipla next Thursday

Last week I sent my passport to the US, so the wife can send it to the British consulate (they need it to approve her settlement VISA).
Unfortunately now it seems the package is lost .. it is way late .. something we didn’t expect.
I called the consulate, and they asked me to send my Portuguese ID and Birth certificate, and they will try and work with that.
Just my luck…

I just got approved for a Fiat Multipla 1.9 JTD ELX
The car is exactly what I was looking for, it is fully loaded (even had double sunroofs).
It has 39k Miles, and it’s a 2001 Y reg.
It is now going to be fully serviced and clean, and I shall have it on Monday or Tusday (1 week or less from now)
Very excited, with the family coming over next month, I needed a larger vehicle for all of us, but mostly, i wanted something newer and more reliable than my 94 Vauxhall.
The outside is metallic grey and the inside is blue, it’s a 6 seat configuration like the example picture below

A few months ago I saw a report on a TV program called “Watchdog” on how clients complaint the NTL was terrible, some of the stories were of people trying to cancel their service and basically only finding blockades everywhere.
So when I got ready to call them today to cancel my old apartment’s service, i was a bit weary .. and did I had reason to be.
The people are Jerks .. and the biggest pain in the ass to work with .. I spend 42 minutes on hold just to have a rep tell me I had to call another department (apparently “CANCELLATIONS” was not the right dept. .. then I was on hold for another 20 minutes before another rep picked up the phone and before I could say “hi” hang it up on me … and I had to start it all over.
What is this ? not wanting to sound paranoid, but I felt like they were trying to see if I was on hold long enough I would not bother to cancel ? what kind of company can make their clients (for the next 20 minutes) be on hold for 40 minutes .. it’;s disrespectful (especially when you get a message saying wait time can be UP to 10 minutes ,… they forget the other 30)
Then when I finally (after another 40 minutes, and several minimal wage reps.) I got the right rep. .. she is trying to tell me I cant cancel because I have a 1 year contract (I know I do, but the reason I want to cancel is they cant move my service to my new place) .. so this tech goes on and on on wanting to put me on a BT line .. and all sorts of crap .. or I have to pay all of my contract.
So I told her Fine .. I’ll pay for the contract, as long as you give me EXACLY what I ordered (which I know they cant, they got no service here) .. eventually I was sent to another Rep .. which gave me no grief and just cancelled the bloody thing.
Almost 2 hours on the phone with some of the rudest, most stupid people I have ever spoken with.
I used to think BT was a bunch of twigs .. but now .. long live BT and Sky …
Geeez.
