Retina Display

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

I have a total of 3 games on my iPhone, thats it !, lately I simply dont have time to do much gaming but one of my favourite time wasters on the iPhone is a game called “Fragger”, so I was quite fast to download the latest update today that includes retina display support plus a new level, but before I did it, I decided to grab a screenshot to check the difference.

Truly is impressive how much detail this screen has, you have to click the images to get the full effect. :)

iPhone 4

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

I decided to get an iPhone 4 this morning (launch date for the UK), so I went to Carphone Warehouse in Canary Wharf to queue at 7 AM, the store normally opens at 9, but today they where going to open at 8.

I thought there would be maybe a couple of people there already, buy was I wrong, when I got there this is what I was faced with:

Yes, there was a line of over 40 people already, and within 30 minutes I had perhaps 50 more queuing behind me, they opened shortly after 8 but unfortunately the phones have to be sold with a contract, so each person was taking 15+ minutes to serve, and they where serving 5 people at a time and letting one person inside the store at a time (when somebody would leave), so while the store opened at 8, I did not got served until past 10 !!!

Even worse, they only had 56 iphones, I was number 40-something, and praying they stuck to 1 phone per client policy, when I got my phone, there where about 10 left, but the queue of 200+ people was still going strong… wishful thinking I guess

Either way, over 3 hours later of standing there, I finally got my phone, it’s a beauty, I am now waiting for the carrier to activate it :)

Worth the wait !

App Store Bug ?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I was browsing thru the App Store today with my iPhone, looking for anything new and interesting when I realized 2 things.

First, despite the fact there might be 1000+ Apps on a category, the iPhone will only show you 150 or so.. 25 at a time can be loaded, but when you load 5 or 6 times it won’t let you load anymore.

Second (and this is what I see as a bug), it will list previously listed Apps, so not only you get a limited number of listings, you might get one listed 3 or 4 times.

Case and point, the screenshots below :)

Fieldrunners

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

I was browsind the iPhone app store when I saw this new game called “Fieldrunners” that looked interesting, so I went away and bought it.

The wife was not pleased, the game was so addictive I got in the zone and was completely oblivious to anything she spoke to me this afternoon ;)

Basically the objective of the game is to build defenses to ward off enemies invasions, but as I play it it kept on reminding me of a early 90′s game called “Cannon Fodder” … Just I’m reverse (defend vs attack).

Either way, nice game.. But once you manage to reach the goal of holding back 100 enemy invarion waves, then it becomes redundant, all it’s left is to try and do it at a harder level.

0 to Jailbreak in … 1 Minute ?

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Last month, when i got my iPhone, it took me less than 24 hours to decide I wanted to Jailbreak him (So I could run other Apps, no need to unlock since I am on O2 anyway)

So I did, and sure enough it was great, but then Apple introduced v. 1.1.3 and there was no Jailbreak for it, I decided to upgrade and go back to having no Apps.

But it did not took long for a new jailbreak to show up, and a few weeks back I try to jailbreak my 1.1.3 phone, and sure enough, it was the same old routine, I had to downgrade to 1.1.1, download almost 300MB worth of firmware from the web, etc etc .. the entire process was similar to 1.1.2 jailbreak as described HERE .. certainly allot of work and took 1 – 2 hours to do.

But I had no luck, for some reason, my Jailbreak 1.1.3 was complaining I had a “unauthorized” SIM (funny, since I actually had a O2 on O2 Iphone contract, card) .. so it was back to 1.1.3 .. non-jailbroken

Until today, when I read about iJailBreak .. the program made some bold claims … 1 minute Jailbreak ?, no downgrade needed ?, surely I was reading it wrong ..

So I downloaded it and fired it up

Firth thing one notices is that it actually calls for the phone to have 1.1.3 (preferably) .. cool, so I clicked Jailbreak, the iphone went to a restart, then I saw a bunch of code being processed on the iPhone, less than a minute later the iphone rebooted and … it was Jailbroken .. WHAT ?

No downgrade to 1.1.1, no fiddling with contacts to access the installer URL, no re-installing 1.1.3 .. no downloading of large firmware files, nothing at all, just worked as a “patch” and it was done.

……. nice :D
