Ireland Event

I just got word from the CFO today, me and Nilesh (Sales manager) are to go to the grand opening of Hosting365 in Ireland next Monday.

The nice thing is, the Irish PM will be attending also, and we will get to be introduced.

We are also on the VPI list due to some dealings we made with the host lately.

But the cool part is, one the flight is only 50 minutes long (I HATE to fly), and second, we get to go on Sunday, I’ll arrive at noon, and Nilesh a few hours after .. that gives us the better part of the afternoon and evening to take in the local scenery and pubs, then rest it out at the hotel before going to the event at noon the next day. :D

The only sad part is that Sunday is Father’s day, and I wont get to spend it with the family.

People sometimes say I’m quite a character …usually not in a good way, following that lead Thiago created a new character for the upcoming strips of The Pings which is based on myself (Null).

On this draft the Null character seem to be inviting people over to Relio (My Hosting Biz), I’m hoping we will have a few new comic strips done by next month.

Children’s Pet Zoo

Today we went to the Children’s Pet Zoo in Barry

The Zoo is close by the Cardiff Airport, we took a drive to Barry Island first, for an ice-cream and we watched the waves, the kids were taking a nap in the back-seat.

We then arrived at the Zoo at about 10:45 .. Vannah and Sierra had a blast, Sierra loved (and kicked) the Chickens, Vannah was just ecstatic, she loves animals, I got a few pictures of them chasing guinea-pigs and Chickens.

Overall it was simply great, time well spent with my girls and the wife, we even got to see a bird fly show, were they demonstrated an Owl and a Hawk, the Owl landed a foot from Vannah, she jumped back, then proceeded to trow a bunch of rocks at the Owl … with everybody else looking .. :D what a nut, the other good laugh of the day was Sally trying to feed a large duck, every time his beak would go near her hand, she would drop the feed and scream.

A couple of days ago, some officer from the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) showed up at my mother-in-law’s house in Florida looking for me.

She was not home, so he enquired about me to the neighbor, he then asked him if he knew were Imperial Drive was (it was the street I lived on in FLA, a few miles away from there), and then proceeded to go there (We got rid of that house recently, so he was going to another dead end).

I cant even guess what in the world did the DHS wanted with me, we called them, but since we don’t know the officer’s name, they could not help us (must be hard to do a search by my name … then again, 5$ an hour college dropouts wont do much ..)

I’m not going to keep calling them, or go visit the US for a while, after this other messup here, I don’t trust US intelligence anymore, and no way I am spending a few months locked up in a place like Guantanamo before they realize they fucked-up once again.

Apple & Intel’s Coupling.

A couple of days ago I read a news article that stated Apple was to migrate his machines to the Intel platform, steering away from the PowerPC in favor of x86.

I personally prompted it as nonsense, true that IBM has not been able to produce a 3 Ghz chip yet, but would Apple really go as far as moving to Intel ?, well the truth would be known at the WWDC conference, so instead of speculating, I decided just to wait (but deep inside, kept dismissing it as a silly rumor)

Well, yesterday Steve Jobs put an end to the rumor, and made a fact, Apple is switching to the Intel processors.

Summary of the night

  • server 26 had to be re-formatted, client messed it up beyond repair
  • server 27 had to be re-formatted, client initially requested the wrong OS
  • server 53 crashed while performing backups, reboot and came back fine.
  • server 98 crashed*

Server 98 crashes at about 3:00 AM, turning it ON/OFF would make the HD’s spin and the lights blink, but no video or activity, upon investigation it appeared the CPU fan failed, and the CPU overheated .. we let it cool down, no avail, the CPU seems to be fry, unfortunately it’s a “Duron”, we don’t use those anymore, so no replacement in house.

We decided to move the HD to another intel machine that was on standby, install the OS and migrate the files over.

On the new machine, the install failed twice, HD errors on a new HD, we try it again with another HD, and it went thru, install was done, but now the /etc/fstab need modifying, so it wont try to read the old HD partitions with the same name as the master on boot instead of the master partitions.

After many hours of troubleshooting, we are finally about ready to start the data migration… and it’s 9:00 AM, a whole night lost.

I do 8 Computers.

*Edit (12:30PM) – Finally it’s all done, system has been restored successfully*

The sketches look great, my own needs to change the eyes (they a bit small on the design) but overall I am very please with his work :)

I quite like it, just the two of us, walking forward and never looking back, just like my life’s philosophy, and hopefully, my girl’s philosophy as well, Life is too short for regrets and “if only…” remarks .. yes, granted I too sometimes get trapped in the past, but I feel that looking towards the future is always so much more fun.
