Testing X1000 v3 Linux

I have installed X1000 v3 Linux on my NX7000 Laptop, I mush say Ahmad (http://x1000.bitbuilder.com/) has done a terrific Job.

here is a screenshot.

X1000v3

Initially I was a bit worried, I have been a Suse user for many years now, the prospect of switching to Gentoo (X1000 is Gentoo based) worried me.

The install was quite simple, basically Ahmad create 2 TAR files, one for / and one for /usr .. just a matter of untaring it into a clean system, edit grub and fstab and put Grub to MBR .. and voala .. instant Gentoo (beats compiling for 2 days)

I love the little voice that comes on when it connect to the wireless network “connected to networkname“.. the volume and mute buttons also work.

On a whole the system performs very well, my only problem is when I try to “emerge” scummvm I get

Wich really sucks, since I got a few older games I want to use (like “Broken Sword”) that need it to be up.

Will it survive when Suse 9.2 comes out next month ?? .. not sure yet 🙂

  1. Just re-read this post, it’s now 2010 and I have finally played Broken Sword … on my iPad 🙂
