Persistence pays off … sort of

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Who says thieves dont work hard ? here is a good example of how desperate fraudster are, this gem of a person utilized 7 different credit cards until one went thru.

The appalling thing is the last one’s details where so good, and the owner is most certainly still oblivious that the cars is stolen, that the anti-fraud systems had no problem passing it thru :p

We are implementing stronger fraud checking, but this is scary, imagine how many cards that a-hole must have ….

VPS.NET … finally !

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

It’s been many months of hard work, countless revisions of code and design and an incredible amount of people and feedback, but finally last night we released VPS.NET.

Ok, we calling it a “Public Beta”, but it only means we are still missing a few bits, what’s there is solid and working fine !

I am incredibly proud with what we achieved there, going “Cloud” for a VPS setting was a risky new idea, but once that once it sunk in, we knew we had a winner, and above all, we knew we had cracked the trend of things to come.

Now I wish I could say it’s “DONE” .. but it’s not yet, still have loads of ideas and cool features to add, man this has been fun :)

A grand design .. better see some awards for it !!

Paris Daytrip

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

I just returned from Paris, I went there with Tom for a meeting with Patrick about a new UK2 project.

The weather was just great, so we did a bit of walking, unfortunately I should have wore more sensible shoes, my feet are killing me now :p

Here are a few pics of oddities we saw around town.

Cubans ?

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Once in a while I do enjoy the occasional Cigar, when I lived in the US I was allways disappnted I could not get hold (legitimally at least) of Cuban cigars.

I remember the US cigar affictionado magazine Propaganda for the south American variety as a better alternative (BS !!!)

So as I wait for a bus in London and I see the Cubans readily available in front of me, I wonder how much longer it will be until we see these kind of adverts in the US

New Car – Grand Picasso

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Last week we had our mechanic check the Multipla for a service and MOT, unfortunately due to Sally’s abuse, the car failed the MOT and the mechanic advise us to just get a new one instead of fixing all the little things that needed fixing.

So today we went to FOW and I leased her a nice Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2.0HDi VTR+.. and the bonus, it’s Automatic :)

We will pick it up next saturday, it will be a good timing as we are off to Paris on April 1st.

I just hope she wont dent this one too soon … lady needs to learn how to drive :p

Tera CP Video

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Now that we at UK2 Group have release the Tera CP for 10tb.com I can post here a short video I made about it.

Kasia from the UK2 did the voice-over, we did not had a mic, so we used the built-in one on my MacBook Pro, I was afraid the quality would be bad, but in the end her voice was nice and clear.

Enjoy :)

New Video Cam: Sanyo Xacti HD2000

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Today I received the new HD camera I bought on Friday, I was quite surprised, as I bought it from Honk Kong .. 3 days (weekend) to get here, and not customs charge … nice.

Since we are off on holiday to Paris next month, I wanted a new video camera to use there, when I read this one also took 8MP photos, I was hooked, plus the pistol grip style and small format, it was a winning combination.

But I had to wait 2 months for it, as it was announced on january, but just released a week or so ago :)

Preliminary tests show the quality is amazing, I was a bit afraid of the lack of Optical Stabilization, but the digital stabilizer seems to do a good job, so I will stop worrying about it and just enjoy the camera.

Also saved 150 quid over the UK price :D (not that you can buy it in the UK yet)

MindMap

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Ditlev introduced me to MindMap and now I am hooked.
I try a few different programs, but in the end decided to use the same App as everybody else in the office “MindJet MindManager”, the reason for me to start using it was I noticed that I was keeping way too much info on my head, I needed to start writing down some of the stuff I am working on, especially the Tera and VPS.NET projects, so once I started writing them down in a mindmap, it was just like releasing it from the back of your mind, felt good actually, less clutter in the noggin.
As I always say, every day you learn something new :)
