Why I love Sally …

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Picture 32.jpg

This is a good example of why I love my wife .. she manages to find new way to make me chuckle.

Take the conversation above, it is Friday, normally today I arrive from London to spend the weekend at home, so on the text above she is asking me where am I, and she is surprised I am already at home, she did not heard me come in, she is also not thinking of the fact she is at the moment in the only computer in the house (well, there are others, but they media centers), regardless, she proceeds to ask me to put some mozarela in the Lasagna she is cooking and makes sure I did it (like all wifes do)

No problem .. right ?

Wrong, that is not me, she is telling a total stranger over the web to go sprinkle cheese on a lasagna, the person even apologizes to her for coming into the house and not making itself noted ..

She then went downstairs, saw “I” did not put the cheese on the Lasagna, cant find me, proceeds to call me (I’m at the train station at this time, mind you) and yell at me for not doing what she asked … (at that moment I tough she had finally lost it and it was time to commit her to an asylum)

It seems when she added me (and gave the nick “Hubby”) she forgot 2 characters on my username, so she was bossing around some poor soul over the web, who is now probably now asking his own spouse “where is the lasagna ?

Yep, you gotta love Sally :D

Tera CP is coming …

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

For a long while now, we have been working on a new Control Panel for the UK2 Group called Tera CP.

This new CP is unlike anything myself or anybody else has done before  .. it’s a new dynamic experience (not the boring, static content of yesterday), and it will blow users (and competition) away.

I am extremely excited about it, and with the Public Beta coming next week, I cannot yet say more about it (it’s ben hard enough to keep my mouth shut until now), but sometime next week I will post some screenines when we release it ;)

Robot Scene Work

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Tonight I spent some time adjusting the light on the robot scene, the textures also did not felt right last tim I render it, so I adjusted some of it’s size and falloff

Also fine tuned a few elements, the glasses frame was too rough, not it’s using sub-d’s and looking much better.

Still more work to be done, too bad Modo does not have IK

Robot Update

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Tonight I managed to start some of the texturing on the Robot, unfortunately Modo is still proving unstable at times, it crashed a couple of times on me.

Texturing in Modo, I cant say it’s hard, but I prefer the way lightwave does it, hopefully with the upcoming versions it will get better, I was also a bit disappointed with the lack of “Glow”.

Next I will try painting on the textures, to give it a bit of an worn-off look in some areas, I still need to make the belt, tools and more detailing, but it’s getting there

Robot 2

Today I managed to create the arms and the hands/claws of the mascot, next I ned to create the antenna and start texturing, I’m also not happy with the rings, so will work on those later.

VPS.NET Robot in 3D

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Just or kicks, I decided to build the VPS.NET robot in 3D, it’s ben close to 5 years since I have done 3D modeling, a few weeks back I decided to give Maya a go, but it’s cluttered UI is just such a mess, so I decided to try something a bit closer to what I am used to, MODO.

Since MODO was built by the old Lightwave team (and I am a LW fan) I found it allot easier to jump into it, sure nought I am still looking around trying to find the location for certain tools, but it sure was easier than Maya.

This is the result of an hour or so of modeling while learning Modo .. still allot of work to go :)

London Sightseeing

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Since I had a cold, I decided not to go home his weekend, to avoid getting the kids sick.

Today I was feeling better, so me and Everaldo went out in the town, it was too beautiful of a day to just stay at the flat.

We went to the “Forbidden Planet” Shop downtown followed by a trip to the Amber Grill, a Brazilian “Rodizio” grill, it was quite good :)

London Snow

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Last night must have fallen about a foot of snow in London, and unfortunately, on a country not used to such levels, it meant everything grinded to a halt.

I had to walk about 2 miles to work since the DLR broke down, on a normal day it would have been ok, but on ice and mushy slippery snow, it was murder .. dont they have snow plows in London ?

Places

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

I have installed iLife 09 this weekend and started to sort some of our digital family photos (over 10k of them) by Geo-Location.

The iPhoto pics are easy, they are tagged automatically, the rest is a manual process

I have gone thru a few thousand so far, and a pattern has emerged, it seems we tend to stick to the Atlantic area, we definitely need to go visit Asia :)
